Terrariums aren't just for those with green thumbs. While it's true that the obvious purpose of making a terrarium is to grow plants that enjoy a humid environment, these days they are filled with all sorts of things, including artificial plants and birds, and other miniature items to create vignettes that reflect any season.
To begin, select a glass vessel of some sort, such as a mason jar, wide-mouthed vase, apothecary jar or hurricane. Here are some of our favorite out-of-the-box containers to use as a terrarium.
1. Spice Tin Mini Terrarium
Spice tins make adorable mini terrariums you can hang on the fridge. They are a small, simple and easy project that anyone can tackle. They also make great gifts!
2. Lantern Terrarium
Lanterns that have been spray painted gold give your terrarium a glam look! The gold color looks fabulous in winter or summer. Change out the types of plants depending on the season.
3. Coffee Pot Terrarium
A coffee pot? Who would have thought this little project would be so cute? If you have an old coffee pot laying around, repurpose it with some adorable succulents!
4. Butterfly Terrarium
This super simple bell jar uses a simple branch and small faux butterflies. It's particularly perfect for the spring months but would look pretty all year round.
